What is this roundtable?

Training, Integration, and Identity: A Roundtable Discussion of Undergraduate and Professional Master's Programs in iSchools

Welcome to the wiki for activities prior to and following the roundtable Training, Integration, and Identity: A Roundtable Discussion of Undergraduate and Professional Master's Programs in iSchools. This is our environment for discussing how iSchools educate their professional students and engage them in the schools' research activities. Some of the questions we posed in our roundtable proposal included

  • What should the role of research in training information professionals be?
  • How can we best engage professional students in our research?
  • How do iSchools address the unique curricular challenges we face in preparing students for a very wide variety of careers?
  • What do we want an Information degree to signal in the marketplace?
  • What are some successes in which research and professional training have benefited one another?

Please feel free to comment, disagree, provoke, pose questions, etc. This wiki will remain a resource for our community as long as it proves useful.

What will the roundtable outcomes be?

Given the size of our roundtable and the available time, we hope to produce the beginnings of a forum to introduce faculty and graduate students to teaching in an iSchool. We will solicit information about successes and failures in attempts to integrate research and professional education during the roundtable, and use those stories as the foundation for this forum. Please join us to discuss what's worked and what hasn't.

When is the roundtable?

1:30-3pm, Friday, February 29th, 2008
We are Roundtable #14, and we'll meet in Covel Commons, Grand Horizon Room E
